Hiya,

Well what better way to start a technical weblog than to talk about a brand new browser and helpfully settle the minds of a people thinking of using Google Chrome.

What is this google chrome? Well its a brand new Web Browser made by the internet giant Google and from what i've seen so far it's a very cool piece of kit. Unlike most new software products Google Chrome was released with a Comic for a manual… and if you're of the geek variety you may find it quite funny at parts.

Here the comic for Google Chrome for those that want to look.

To sum it up here though it goes over the aspects that are new to browsers, including lots of security enhancements.

1) Process Separation.

This is a first for browsers what this means is that each browser tab you have open is run and treated like a seprate process on your machine rather than the whole browser being run together as one… What could this mean to me? Well say for instance you have 3 browser tabs open, site A, B & C lets say… site A & B are safe websites… but site C is a bad site and attempts to manipulate your browser, with normal browsers this would mean they could exploit the whole application… but that's not the case with Google Chrome, because each tab is in its own process it's like being in a jail… so with Google Chrome site C might try to exploit your browser but it just wont happen…

Also as each tab is its own process so if the website your are viewing throws an error that means you have to restart the browser… you can simply close the tab… job done.. no loss of unsaved work.. no hassle

2) Proactive bad site finding

So with Google Chrome it downloads a list from google.com every 30 minutes of websites that google think are bad for your computer or a scamming website. This is done behind the scenes and means if you browse to a bad site you get a warning before you download any of the websites content!!

3) "omnibox"

This is basicly inline searching when you type in a url… you can use it just like a search, but its a mix of Google results and the sites you have been to… kinda like the new firefox 3 address bar but with search results thrown in.

4) Multi user privacy

If you share a pc with alot of people, or run a internet cafe this feature will be great for you and the people that use the machine(s) Google Chrome can keep all private information safe hiding browsing history, deleting cookies etc…

5) Javascript Manipulation

Google Chrome dose not render javascript in the same way as you would think, in Google Chrome you CANT force anything onto the browser… popups and such like, also all JavaScript is run in a sandbox… for those that dont know what this is.. it's like a play pen for toddlers, a safe environment where they cant do any damage to the surrounding area… just another step to making your browsing secure and fun!

In conclusion i think Google Chrome is great for what it trys to achieve, but it might not be the browser for you… if your a Firefox user (like me!) you have got your custom extensions and most likely have some form of technical understanding of the web i would stick with Firefox… for now…

For anyone using Internet Explorer from Microsoft… i have one thing to say… when there is a new security vulnerability Internt Explorer takes over 6 months on average just to fix, if you moved to Google Chrome you would see the internet in a whole new way! A lot of websites will look nicer, they will load ALOT faster and you will start to enjoy surfing the web a lot more!

To download a copy of Google Chrome you can do so here http://www.google.com/chrome

Anyways that's enough of me talking, over the next few days either me or Liam will put up a post to explain abit more about this blog… and what it could possibly have anything to do with premium compost!… hmm i wonder?

Untill then, happy surfing
